The Maira Valley is in province of
Cuneo, in the heart of the Alps Cozie, in the middle of the Occitan
territory. It’s composed by 14 Provinces: Busca, Villar San
Costanzo, Dronero, Roccabruna, Cartignano, San Damiano Macra, Macra,
Celle di Macra, Stroppo, Elva, Marmora, Canosio, Prazzo and Acceglio.
Thanks to its position, still relatively close at the coasts of Liguria,
the valley feels the beneficial influence of the sea, that bestow
on it a rigorous climate in winter, with strong snowfalls, and a mild
summer. The name of the valley derives from the presence of the stream
Maira, which crosses it.
